People from various walks of life in Pirojpur have congratulated and expressed gratitude to Pirojpur-1 MP Masood Sayeedi as steps have been initiated to implement one of his key election pledges just four months after his election.
During his election campaign, Masood Sayeedi had pledged to transform Pirojpur into an economic zone to attract industries and create employment opportunities, alongside establishing rail links with the capital to improve connectivity.
According to local sources, the proposal to declare Pirojpur an economic zone was approved at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) held at the Secretariat on 14 June. Earlier, on 16 June, Railways Minister Sheikh Robiul Alam announced plans to establish rail connectivity between Dhaka and Pirojpur following directives from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Analysts and local stakeholders believe that the economic zone could significantly boost the coastal district's economy by attracting domestic and foreign investment, creating employment and promoting agro-processing, fisheries and other industries.
Improved rail connectivity is also expected to facilitate passenger and freight transport, reduce business costs and stimulate industrial and tourism development in the region.
MP Masood Sayeedi said he was working to fulfil all of his electoral commitments in phases and had personally discussed Pirojpur's development needs with the Prime Minister.
He thanked Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for taking what he described as "landmark decisions" regarding the economic zone and railway project.
Local leaders, including Pirojpur BNP Convener Nazrul Islam Khan and Pirojpur Press Club President Rezaul Islam Shamim, said the initiatives could usher in a new era of development for the long-neglected district.
Residents expressed hope that the approved projects would be implemented swiftly, helping transform Pirojpur into a major economic hub in southern Bangladesh.
