Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar on Tuesday strongly condemned the attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to push women, men and children into Bangladesh through the Benapole border in Jessore.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, he termed
the “Indian policy” of forcibly pushing individuals into Bangladesh by
labelling them as Bangladeshi nationals as highly condemnable.
He said such actions are unacceptable as they
bypass proper identification and diplomatic channels, instead creating
instability, insecurity and tension along the border.
Golam Porwar referred to an incident on
Sunday night (31 May), saying that BSF’s attempt to push people into Bangladesh
in the Sadhipur Khoyer field border area north of the Benapole international
checkpost was foiled due to the strong stance of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
He said around 8–10 individuals, including
women and children, are currently stranded at the zero line on the
India-Bangladesh border, and urged Indian authorities to immediately take them
back and refrain from such actions in the future.
The Jamaat leader also praised the BGB for
its role in safeguarding national sovereignty and border security. At the same
time, he criticised what he described as the government’s weak foreign policy
and the lack of diplomatic protest against such incidents.
He called for strict enforcement of laws to
prevent border-related offences and ensure the safety of citizens, along with
stronger internal and diplomatic measures by the government to address such
issues in the future.
