Jatiya Chhatra Shakti activists staged a protest march and rally at Dhaka University on Sunday demanding a reversal of the recent fuel price increase.

Members of the student organisation gathered in front of the Anti-Terrorism Raju Memorial Sculpture at 5 pm on 19 April.

Central leaders and students from various levels joined the demonstration, labelling the price hike a "decision imposed on the people" through the creation of an artificial crisis.

During the rally, speakers alleged that the government used a long-term oil shortage as an excuse to suddenly raise prices. They argued this move would worsen the financial hardships already faced by the general public.

Jatiya Chhatra Shakti Central President Zahid Ahsan stated that citizens can no longer bear the burden of uncontrolled commodity prices.

He accused the government of failing to regulate the market, establish discipline in the banking sector, or dismantle business syndicates.

"The government has created an artificial oil crisis and is now exerting additional pressure on the people by increasing prices,"  Zahid Ahsan said.

Tahmid Al Muddasisar Chowdhury, president of the Dhaka University branch of Jatiya Chhatra Shakti, criticised the government for targeting critics instead of taking action against market syndicates.

He claimed that activists face harassment, arrest, and lawsuits for expressing their opinions.

He specifically demanded the immediate release of activist Hasan Nasim.

The protesters concluded the rally by warning of political consequences if the government continues to ignore public expectations. They called for an immediate reduction in fuel prices and the restoration of market stability.
