Hefazat-e-Islam Bnagladesh congratulated BNP Chairman
Tarique Rahman and the party-led alliance for achieving a landslide victory in
the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
In a statement sent to the media on Saturday, Hefazat Ameer
Shah Muhibbullah Babunagari and Secretary General Sajidur Rahman expected that
BNP would play a due role in establishing justice, good governance,
safeguarding the country's sovereignty and Islamic values after assuming power.
"We extend our sincere congratulations and best wishes
to Tarique Rahman and the BNP-led alliance for achieving a landslide victory in
the 13th Parliamentary Election based on the expectations of the people,” the
statement said, adding that Hefazat also congratulated all newly elected
lawmakers, the interim government and the Election Commission.
Describing state power as “a great blessing from Allah,” the
leaders said they expected the new government under Tarique’s leadership to run
the state with honesty, efficiency and responsibility, and to play an effective
role in the overall development of the country, as well as in establishing
justice and good governance.
They also expressed hope that the government would take firm
steps to protect the country's mosques-madrasas, scholars, religious and human
rights of citizen, while ensuring the rule of law, controlling prices, creating
employment, and preserving Muslim education.
The statement further said that the government would
strengthen national unity by maintaining tolerance and mutual respect among
differing political views, and take a firm stance against fascist tendencies.
Those in power will consider themselves as servants of the people, not rulers.
Alleging post-election violence, Hefazat leaders said that
the terrorism, violence and anarchy would harm the government, society and
future generations.
They called on the new government to take strict but fair
steps to curb terrorism and violence.
The leaders also urged effective training to make law
enforcement forces more professional, accountable and humane, and initiative to
guide the young people to the right direction.
The Hefazat leaders further appealed to the civil society
and youth to refrain from provocative actions, attacks on opponents, spreading
false information, and engaging in violent activities on social media, while
emphsising the need for greater compassion and support for poor, helpless, and
disadvantaged people.
