Voting for Jamaat will destroy faith: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said a political party is trying to mislead people in the name of religion.

“They are preaching that if you vote for the ‘scale’ symbol, you will go to heaven,” he said while addressing an election rally in the Thakurgaon-1 constituency on Monday.

Questioning whether anyone can go to heaven just by voting for a particular symbol, he said that voting for the Jamaat-e-Islami would destroy one’s faith.

Fakhrul said that prominent Islamic scholars in the country have also rejected such propaganda.

“We cannot destroy our faith by voting for such a party. So I urge everyone not to be misled,” he said.

The BNP leader called on people to uphold the spirit of the great Liberation War of 1971, vote for the ‘sheaf of paddy’ symbol on 12 February, and make Tarique Rahman prime minister to restore democracy and ensure development in the country.
