BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that if the party comes to power, it will ensure the highest honour, security and due rights of the July fighters, including arrangements for advanced medical treatment at home or abroad if necessary.
He made the remarks at a view-exchange meeting with July fighters and their family members at the Mirza Ruhul Amin Auditorium in Thakurgaon at around 10:00pm on Wednesday (4 February).
Mirza Fakhrul said the July fighters would be given the highest priority, acknowledging their decisive role in the movement that led to the fall of the previous government.
He noted that while the BNP’s movement had followed a different course, the youth-led movement was more courageous and resolute, and that the combined struggle made the fall of the fascist government possible.
He expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to the July fighters for their contribution.
He also said that those who committed crimes in a fascist manner would be brought to justice, adding that judicial proceedings had already begun and would continue.
At the same time, he assured that the security of the July fighters would be ensured.
Speaking on the development of Thakurgaon, the BNP leader said the district was economically underdeveloped, with no major industries.
He criticised previous governments for failing to deliver on political promises.
He said that if the BNP forms the government, agriculture-based industries would be established in the region, alongside initiatives to promote privately owned farms, expand technical education and develop skilled manpower in the IT sector so that young people can earn a living from home.
During the meeting, he also pledged to ensure improved medical facilities for the July fighters and promised to establish a medical college in Thakurgaon.
