BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said his party does not allow anybody to exploit people to accumulate personal wealth.
“We have never made wealth from politics. We do
politics by selling our inherited property, not by exploiting the people,” he
said.
He made the remarks while addressing an election
rally at Barunagao of Salandar Union under Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila on Sunday.
Local BNP leaders attended the rally with BNP ward
unit President Mofiz Uddin in the chair.
Fakhrul said, “We have always tried to stay with the
people. They feel safe with the BNP as at least we will not betray their
trust.”
“We want to work for the welfare of the people and
form a government through elections to ensure their voices are heard,” he said.
Fakhrul announced several BNP initiatives, including
family cards for mothers to strengthen family welfare, agriculture cards for
farmers to access fertilisers and seeds at fair prices and plans to improve
healthcare, education and transportation, along with creating employment
opportunities for the unemployed.
He highlighted BNP’s past contributions, including
MPO recognition for institutions, construction of roads, bridges and culverts,
introduction of the Barendra Project in Thakurgaon and promotion of maize cultivation
and poultry farming.
“BNP is a tested party; there is nothing to know
about us newly,” he said.
He said, “During Sheikh Hasina’s tenure, freedom of
speech was restricted. People were often arrested for expressing their views.”
Seeking vote in the coming election, Fakhrul said,
“I am at an age where this will be my last election. If you vote for me, I will
complete the unfinished work for you, InshaAllah.”
