Islami Andolan Bangladesh has announced that it will support “honest, qualified and people-oriented” candidates from anti-fascist forces in constituencies where the party will not field its own candidates in the upcoming national election.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the party’s Joint Secretary General and spokesperson, Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman, said Islami Andolan Bangladesh had decided to contest elections independently in 268 parliamentary seats. He noted that the decision had already been announced through a press briefing.

Regarding the remaining 32 seats, Maulana Ataur Rahman said the party would extend support, through dialogue and discussion, to suitable candidates representing anti-fascist forces in those constituencies where the party’s electoral symbol, Hatpakha, would not be used.

He added that once election campaigning formally begins after 20 January, the party will hold consultations and announce its support for candidates in those 32 seats accordingly.

“We are not thinking about this matter right now. A decision will be communicated at the appropriate time,” he said.

The Islami Andolan leader stressed that the party’s approach reflects its commitment to political integrity, public accountability and opposition to fascism, while navigating the complexities of electoral alliances and ideological considerations.
