National Citizen Party (NCP) Senior Joint Member Secretary Tasnim Jara has resigned from her post, according to media reports.
She has also announced that she will run as an independent candidate in the upcoming 13th parliamentary election.
A joint member secretary of the NCP told the media on Saturday that Tasnim resigned and wrote in the party’s social media group, “Dear comrades, I have resigned from the party. Over the past one and a half years, I have learned a lot from you, for which I am sincerely grateful. Best wishes to all of you.”
Meanwhile, on her verified Facebook account, Tasnim wrote this evening, “Dear residents of Khilgaon, Sabujbagh, and Mugda, I am your daughter from this community. I was born and raised in Khilgaon. My dream was to serve the people of my area and the country by being elected to parliament through the platform of a political party. However, due to the current circumstances, I have decided not to contest the election as a candidate of any particular party or alliance.”
She wrote, “I had promised you and the country’s people that I would fight for you and to build a new political culture. Whatever the circumstances, I am determined to keep that promise. Therefore, I will run this election as an independent candidate from Dhaka-9.”
Tasnim said, “If I were a candidate of a political party, I would have the party’s local office and a well-organised team of activists. I would also have the opportunity to raise concerns or objections with the government and administration regarding security or other matters. Since I am not affiliated with any party, I will not have any of these advantages.
“You are my only source of strength. As your daughter, if you show me your affection and support in view of my honesty, dedication, and indomitable desire to practise a new kind of politics, only then will I get the opportunity to serve you,” she added.
