The Dhaka University (DU) unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal brought out a procession on Thursday night, welcoming the announcement of the schedule for the 13th parliamentary elections.

Following the declaration of the election schedule in the evening, leaders and activists of Chhatra Dal gathered at the TSC and launched marches through key roads on the university campus.

The procession concluded with a brief rally at the passenger shed adjacent to Rokeya Hall.

Addressing the rally, DU Chhatra Dal President Ganesh Chandra Roy Sahas said that the country’s democratic progress had been hindered by the past four national elections.

“We were unable to vote through the elections in 2014, the night-time elections in 2018, and the ‘dummy’ elections in 2024.

“This time, the people will have the opportunity to exercise their voting rights in the elections on 12 February 2026,” he said.

He added that Chhatra Dal would mobilise a mass movement in support of the Dhaner Sheesh symbol of its parent organisation, BNP, to enhance public involvement in implementing BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s 31-point plan.

He further said that Chhatra Dal would provide all-out support to the Election Commission to ensure smooth conduct of the upcoming elections.

General Secretary of the DU Chhatra Dal unit, Nahiduzzaman Shipon, also addressed the gathering.

He said, “A fascist regime was established in the country by systematically depriving the young generation of their fundamental right to vote in the past three national elections. After a long period of repression, we are now moving forward towards building a democratic Bangladesh, where restoring the right to vote is among our foremost priorities.”

Hundreds of Chhatra Dal leaders and activists from different units joined the procession, describing the election schedule announcement as the beginning of “a new democratic journey.”
