Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat on Friday called on media workers to play an effective role in countering disinformation and ensuring the dissemination of objective news.
“Some banned groups are spreading propaganda against the government through social media. Media workers must come forward to counter disinformation and present authentic news,” he said while speaking as the chief guest at a programme at the Bakshiganj Upazila Parishad conference room in Jamalpur.
At the programme, financial assistance from the Prime Minister's relief fund was distributed among poor and helpless people, while corrugated iron sheets and cheques were handed over to families affected by disasters. Besides, financial assistance and fire extinguishers were distributed for the puja mandaps ahead of Durga Puja.
Millat said, “We are working day and night to overcome the country's gas and electricity crises. However, given the global war situation, people will have to remain patient,” he said.
He expressed optimism about the country's development, saying Bangladesh had a large workforce that could help accelerate progress if properly engaged.
The minister also said the government enjoyed considerable support internationally. Referring to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's visit to the United States, he said US President Donald Trump had praised Bangladesh's garment sector during their meeting.
Addressing government officials, Millat called for cooperation between public representatives and officials to maintain law and order ahead of Durga Puja.
He also stressed a zero-tolerance policy against drugs and urged authorities to encourage teenagers to participate in sports alongside their studies.
Earlier, the minister inaugurated the tree plantation fair 2026 at the Bakshiganj Upazila Parishad premises and planted a tree on the premises. Government officials from various departments of Bakshiganj upazila and local BNP leaders attended the programme.
