Chief of Army Staff General Waqar-Uz-Zaman returned to Bangladesh on Saturday after completing official visits to Australia and the United States.

During the first phase of his visit, the Army Chief attended “The Chief of Army Symposium and Land Forces International Defence Exposition 2026,” held in Perth, Australia.

While in Australia, he also visited Deakin University in Melbourne and held discussions on expanding mutual cooperation in education and research, as well as academic exchange programmes, between the university and Bangladesh’s Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST).

Subsequently, Waqar-Uz-Zaman attended the “Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Annual Meeting and Exposition” in Washington, DC, USA.

During the visits, the Army Chief paid courtesy calls on and exchanged views with key defence officials in Australia and the United States. He also visited various military installations in both countries.

The visits are expected to further expand the existing professional ties between the Bangladesh Army and the armies of Australia and the United States, as well as the United States Army Pacific (USARPAC). They are also expected to create further opportunities for mutual cooperation, training, and the exchange of knowledge and experience.
