Six sentenced to life for gang-raping two girls in Keraniganj

A tribunal in Dhaka on Tuesday sentenced six youths to life imprisonment for abducting and gang-raping two girls in the South Keraniganj area of the capital four years ago.

The convicted are Rahul, Md Diamond, Afsar Uddin Anim, Parvez Haque Palash, Minhaj alias Minhaj Abedin, and Minhaj alias Babu alias Minhaj Babu.

Judge Munshi Md Mashiar Rahman of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-4 delivered the verdict, said state prosecutor Md Ershad Alam (George).

The court also fined each convict Tk1 lakh in addition to the prison sentence, and directed the Dhaka District Magistrate or Collector to recover the fine amount by selling the convicts' movable and immovable property and to hand it over to the victims or their families.

Among the accused, Rahul remains at large, and the court issued an arrest warrant along with a sentence warrant against him, while sentence warrants were issued for the other convicts, who were sent to jail.

According to the case details, the accused allegedly abducted and brutally raped the two young girls while they were returning home after attending a friend's birthday celebration four years ago.
