A Dhaka court on Monday placed former Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) official Md Afzal Naser on a fresh three-day remand in a case filed over the killing of Delwar Hossain in Mirpur during the July uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jamsed Alam passed the order, state prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruqui confirmed.
Earlier in the day, the investigating officer, DB Police Sub-Inspector Kofil Uddin, produced the accused before the court after completing 21 days of remand in six phases and sought a fresh five-day remand.
According to the remand plea, the accused withheld significant information and provided only fragmented statements regarding the incident. Further interrogation is necessary to uncover the mystery of the case, identify all individuals involved in the killing, and determine their specific roles.
Afzal Naser was arrested on 30 March from a residence in Mirpur DOHS by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
According to the case statement, on 19 July 2024, the accused and others allegedly opened fire from different directions, targeting the anti-discrimination student movement in the Mirpur-10 fruit market area.
Delwar Hossain, who participated in the movement, was shot and critically injured. He was first taken to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases and later to a private hospital in Shyamoli, where he died on 21 July while undergoing treatment.
On 6 July 2025, the victim’s wife, Liza Akter, filed a murder case with Mirpur Model Police Station over the killing.
