Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has called on the party’s leaders and members to excel in humanitarian qualities and ethical standards and earn people’s trust by standing beside them in their joys and hardships.

He made the remarks while addressing the concluding session of a two-day Rukon (member) training camp organised by Sylhet city Jamaat at an auditorium in the Madina Market area of Sylhet on Friday.

Shafiqur, also the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, said Jamaat leaders should improve their competence, skills and leadership qualities while remaining connected with people’s needs and problems.

He said the party’s grassroots members should be developed in line with these principles and urged them to strengthen public engagement through expanded social and humanitarian activities.

“Good governance cannot be established without Allah’s law,” he said, adding that Jamaat-e-Islami was at the forefront among Islamic parties seeking governance based on Islamic law.

He urged party members to treat people with respect and said standing beside people in need was important for increasing the organisation’s public engagement.

Shafiqur also called for transparency in business and financial transactions, saying party members should not even harbour thoughts of earning money through illegal means and should stay away from prohibited sources of income.

He stressed the importance of good behaviour towards parents and respecting the rights and dignity of every family member. He also urged parents to treat their children with affection and responsibility and to pray for their guidance even if they went astray.

He said parents should not favour sons over daughters in violation of Islamic principles and warned against depriving others of their rights in the name of securing their children’s future.
