The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) on Monday handed over 50,000 dengue NS1 test kits, 70,000 bags of normal saline and 15,000 bags of baby saline, along with saline sets, to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) as part of its ongoing Dengue Response Operation 2026.

Additionally, BDRCS provided 5,000 bags of normal saline to Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital (HFRCMCH) to support the treatment of dengue patients.

The handover ceremony was held at the BDRCS Headquarters in Dhaka. The Chairman of BDRCS Barrister Md Abdus Salam handed over the medical supplies to Prof Halimur Rashid, director (Disease Control), DGHS, and Dr Md Nasiruddin Ponir, director of Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of BDRCS said, “As an auxiliary to the Government of Bangladesh, BDRCS is committed to supporting the national response by providing essential medical supplies, strengthening community awareness and extending humanitarian assistance to vulnerable families. We hope this support will contribute to improving access to diagnosis and treatment and protecting communities at risk.”

He said, ‘Beyond medical supplies, the ongoing Dengue Response Operation 2026 includes cash assistance of Tk10,000 each to 2,500 vulnerable families affected by dengue, community awareness campaigns, cleanliness drives and volunteer mobilization in 17 dengue-prone districts.

The operation also includes orientation sessions for healthcare workers at 10 government hospitals to strengthen their capacity in dengue diagnosis and patient management.’

Through these interventions, BDRCS aims to reach approximately 500,000 people across the country.

Its nationwide network of trained volunteers is supporting dengue prevention activities through leaflet distribution, public awareness initiatives, digital communication and community-level engagement.

Earlier this year as part of its preparedness efforts, BDRCS provided 40,000 dengue test kits to the Government ahead of the worsening dengue situation.

The Society also supported the Government during the recent measles outbreak by providing 100,000 bags of normal saline.

The event was attended by Seval Guzelkilinc, head of delegation of IFRC, Md Habibur Rahman Khan, secretary general of BDRCS; Md Ehsan-E-Elahi, deputy secretary general of BDRCS, Prof Brigadier General Dr SM Humayun Kabir (Retd), director of health , ASM Mamunur Rahman Khalili, director of HR & administration, BDRCS; Prof Dr KM Mozibul Haque, principal of Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College; Dr Md Nasir Uddin Ahmed, director of Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital along with other distinguished guests and officials.
