Minister for Fisheries and Livestock and Agriculture Mohammad Aminur Rashid on Saturday expressed his commitment to addressing the existing problems at Cumilla Medical College Hospital (CuMCH) and said efforts would be made to increase its bed capacity to 1,000.
The minister made the remarks while addressing the Intern
Graduation Ceremony (Cum-29) and Doctors’ Reunion 2026 as the chief guest at
the newly constructed auditorium of Comilla Medical College, according to a
press release.
He attended the programme as president of the Cumilla
Medical College Hospital Management Committee.
The minister said the government was prioritising the supply
of necessary medical equipment to medical colleges. He added that he would
discuss the allocation of essential equipment for the hospital with the Health
Minister.
Emphasising the importance of proper maintenance, he urged
hospital authorities to ensure that medical equipment remained functional
throughout its designated service life.
The minister also stressed the importance of compassionate
and patient-centred healthcare. He said doctors should listen attentively to
patients, understand their health problems and provide appropriate advice.
“Spending adequate time with patients and listening
carefully to their concerns help build their confidence and provide mental
comfort. Sincerity and humane behaviour are as important as medical treatment,”
he said.
The minister said proper dietary habits and lifestyle
changes could help reduce the risk of many diseases. He called upon physicians
to raise public awareness about preventive healthcare and the role of safe food
in maintaining good health.
Addressing the newly graduated doctors, he urged them to dedicate themselves to public welfare and uphold the highest standards of professionalism, responsibility and compassion.
“Serve the people with sincerity and dedication, earn the trust of your patients and work together to build a better world for future generations,” he said.
The programme was chaired by Cumilla Medical College
Principal Prof Dr Md Masum Hasan. Administrator of Comilla City Corporation Md
Yusuf Mulla Tipu attended the programme as special guests. Senior physicians,
faculty members and other officials were also present.
