TECNO explores next step in borderless smartphone design

Smartphone design has steadily moved towards thinner bezels and larger displays. TECNO is taking that trend further with its Next-Gen Bezelless Concept Phone, featuring what the company describes as a true 0mm display bezel.
The concept is designed to create an almost uninterrupted display extending to the edges of the device, potentially offering a larger viewing area without significantly increasing the phone’s overall size, the company said in a statement.
Achieving the design requires changes to the internal architecture of a conventional smartphone. TECNO has used component stacking, structural engineering and new screen-packaging techniques to accommodate the edge-to-edge display while maintaining the device’s form.
Unlike designs that rely heavily on curved screen edges to create a bezel-free appearance, the concept focuses on reducing the physical border around the display itself. The approach could make activities such as watching videos, gaming, reading and viewing photos more immersive.
The concept has attracted attention from international technology media, with Digital Trends highlighting its bezel-free appearance and GSMArena reporting on TECNO’s claim of achieving true zero-mm display bezels.
TECNO is expected to showcase the concept at IFA 2026 in Berlin this September, where further details about the technology could emerge.
The device is currently a concept rather than a commercially available smartphone. However, it reflects the industry’s continuing efforts to maximise display area while maintaining familiar smartphone dimensions.
For consumers, the development offers a glimpse of how future smartphones could evolve, with less visible space around the display and greater emphasis on screen-based experiences.
