A film co-produced Zakir Hossain Raju, a professor at Independent University of Bangladesh, has received international recognition at film festivals held in Russia.
King in the Land of the Princess, a Bangladesh-India
co-production, has had successful festival journey through Moscow and Kazan,
and has now been officially selected for the 2026 Indian Film Festival of
Melbourne (IFFM)—one of the world’s leading celebrations of Indian and South
Asian cinema, IUB’s Department of Media and Communication said in a social
media post.
The film explores the transformation of Bengal’s
traditional Jatra through a powerful contemporary cinematic lens.
Professor Raju has also been invited as an official
festival guest at IFFM, joining an esteemed lineup that includes acclaimed
Indian film critic Meenakshi Shedde and celebrated actors Rani Mukerji and
Pankaj Tripathi.
This recognition reflects Professor Raju’s continued
contributions to global film scholarship and cinema, while showcasing the
growing international presence of Bangladeshi storytelling.
The department extended its warmest congratulations
to Raju and the entire team behind King in the Land of the Princess and wished
them success at the upcoming festival.
