Bangladesh and Türkiye have discussed expanding cooperation in the power and energy sector, focusing on affordable electricity generation, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs).

The issues were discussed at a meeting between Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood and Turkish Ambassador to Bangladesh Ramis Şen at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday, said a press release.

The discussions also covered the supply of heavy fuel oil (HFO) and ways to develop cost-effective energy solutions to strengthen Bangladesh’s energy security.

The minister emphasised the need for affordable and sustainable energy solutions to help bring the country’s idle power generation facilities into operation and improve overall energy security.

The Turkish delegation expressed interest in meeting ministry officials soon to present its proposals in detail and explore opportunities to support Bangladesh’s energy security.

The minister welcomed the proposal and agreed to hold further discussions to examine potential areas of cooperation.

The Turkish ambassador also expressed his country’s interest in strengthening bilateral relations with Bangladesh, particularly in the energy sector.

The ambassador was accompanied by Bilal Belyurt, commercial counsellor at the Turkish embassy in Dhaka, and Karpowership officials Jad El Sebaaly, Asli Kilic and Emma Wahlberg.

Energy and Mineral Resources Division Secretary Md Ziaul Huq and other senior ministry officials were also present at the meeting.
