Bangladesh and Germany have expressed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in trade and investment, education, skills development, renewable energy, climate action, culture, and migration and mobility.

The issues came up for discussion when German Ambassador Dr Rüdiger Lotz paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka on Wednesday.

The ambassador congratulated the state minister on his recent assumption of office and expressed confidence that Bangladesh-Germany relations would be further strengthened.

Humaiun Kobir appreciated Germany’s longstanding engagement and development cooperation with Bangladesh and expressed interest in expanding bilateral ties in various areas.

The two sides also discussed a broad range of bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest and exchanged views on broadening the Bangladesh-EU partnership.

Ambassador Lotz reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation, particularly the early conclusion of a Bangladesh-EU free trade agreement, enhanced cooperation in the aviation sector, and increased trade, investment and people-to-people exchanges.

He highlighted Bangladesh’s post-election stability and said German companies were showing growing interest in the country’s investment-friendly climate.

Both sides also reaffirmed their commitment to cooperation in relevant international forums and expressed confidence that continued high-level engagement would further strengthen the longstanding partnership between the two countries.
