Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan has expressed hope that Bangladesh-China relations will become stronger and more multifaceted in the days ahead.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a programme organised by the Bangladesh-China Cultural, Economic and Public Relations Centre at Gulshan Club in the capital on Monday.
The programme marked China’s National Day and also featured a farewell reception for Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen.
The LGRD minister described China as a proven friend of Bangladesh, noting that former President Ziaur Rahman attached great importance to Bangladesh’s relations with China.
He said the two countries have maintained longstanding friendly relations and expressed hope that the ties will grow stronger in the future.
Expressing his sadness over Ambassador Yao Wen’s departure, Dr Moyeen Khan said the envoy had provided continued support to Bangladesh in various fields during his nearly four-year tenure.
He said Yao Wen’s contributions had played an important role in further advancing Bangladesh-China relations.
The minister said Bangladesh is keen to further strengthen the existing friendly ties with China and expressed hope that the relationship would reach new heights under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Post and Telecommunications Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam attended the programme as a special guest, while Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen was present as the guest of honour.
