To maintain leadership in the European market, Bangladesh must ensure an uninterrupted supply of apparel and present products in an eco-friendly manner, said Khandker M Talha, permanent representative of Bangladesh to UNESCO and ambassador of Bangladesh to France.

He made the remarks during the inauguration of the international textile trade fair "Texworld Apparel Sourcing Paris – Autumn 2026" in the French capital.

The three-day exhibition kicked off on Tuesday (1 September) at the Paris Le Bourget exhibition center. Later that afternoon, the Bangladesh Pavilion was inaugurated at booth B330 in Hall 3.

Following the inauguration of the pavilion, Ambassador Talha told journalists in response to a query, "After discussions with the organizing authority Messe Frankfurt, I understood that Bangladesh's current priority must be ensuring steady apparel supply and presenting garments sustainably. Only then can we retain our leadership in Europe."

He further noted that while Bangladesh remains highly significant in the ready-made garment sector, competing nations such as India and Vietnam have been performing well due to various recent factors. With consumer tastes and demands shifting globally, Bangladesh must also pay close heed to these changes, he added.

Mohammad Hasan Arif, Vice Chairman and CEO of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), attended the event as a special guest.

A total of 12 Bangladeshi enterprises are participating in the fair under the initiative of the EPB, alongside five other firms joining through private initiatives. This participation enables local institutions to establish direct connections with European buyers while showcasing their capabilities in high-value and diversified apparel products.

Running through 2 September, the fair occupies Halls 2, 3, and 4 of the Le Bourget exhibition center. According to the organizer Messe Frankfurt, the 59th edition of the event features around 1,300 manufacturers and suppliers from roughly 35 countries, with traditional manufacturing powerhouses like China, India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan alongside emerging nations showcasing their production capacities to international buyers.

The opening ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Bangladesh Embassy, including Mohammad Rehan Uddin, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Pavilion Director. Other attendees included Defense Attache Brigadier General Mohammad Khairuzzaman Mollah, Counselor Mahfuza Sultana, Head of Chancery Md Walid Bin Kashem, First Secretary Sheikh Marefat Tarikul Islam, Minister Commercial Mizanur Rahman, and Second Secretary K F M Sharhad Shakil.

Insiders believe that participation in a global fashion hub like Paris amidst a changing global apparel and textile landscape will play a vital role in highlighting Bangladesh's manufacturing capacity, quality, and forging new business relationships.
