Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad will join the state funeral of late Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Tehran.

The Speaker is scheduled to leave Dhaka for Iran on Wednesday and is likely to be in Tehran on Thursday at the invitation of Iranian Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf.

The funeral of late Ali Khamenei will begin in Tehran on Thursday, and he will be buried in his hometown of Mashhad on 9 July.

Hafiz Uddin Ahmad will join the funeral prayers on behalf of the Government of Bangladesh and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Several MPs are also expected to travel to Iran independently to participate in the funeral, according to sources.
