Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh SAIDA Shinichi paid tribute to United Nations peacekeepers, particularly Bangladeshi soldiers serving in conflict-hit regions around the world, on the International Day of UN Peacekeepers.
According to a Facebook post by the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh, the ambassador praised the dedication and sacrifice of Bangladeshi peacekeepers and recognised Bangladesh as one of the largest troop- and police-contributing countries to UN peacekeeping missions.
In his message, Ambassador Saida expressed deep condolences over the deaths of six Bangladeshi soldiers who lost their lives last year while serving in a UN peacekeeping mission in Sudan.
He said their selfless service and ultimate commitment to peace would remain in people’s hearts and extended appreciation to their families and colleagues.
The Japanese envoy also reiterated Japan’s commitment to international peace cooperation and said Tokyo would continue working closely with global partners, including Bangladesh, to promote peace and stability worldwide.
