The Embassy of Russia in Bangladesh on Friday celebrated the 81st anniversary of Victory Day marking the Soviet Union’s triumph in the Great Patriotic War.
A series of commemorative events were organised at the embassy to honour the memory of those who contributed to the defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945.
Students of the Embassy School, along with their teachers, staged a special cultural programme featuring patriotic songs, dances and poetry recitations centred on the Great Patriotic War.
Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Khozin thanked the students and teachers for their respect towards Russian history and praised their dedication, noting that preparations for the performance had continued for several months.
The celebrations also included patriotic observances such as the “Candle of Memory” and the “Garden of Memory”, both of which have become longstanding traditions at the embassy over the years.
To pay tribute to war veterans, embassy officials and their family members arranged an “Immortal Regiment” exhibition, showcasing family stories and memories connected to the war.
As part of the Victory Day celebrations, a motorcycle and car rally was also held in the Gulshan area of the capital. The rally was attended by officials of the Russian Embassy and the Russian House in Dhaka, teachers and students, members of the Russian expatriate community, and graduates of Soviet and Russian universities.
Among those addressing the participants were Ambassador Alexander Khozin, Director of the Russian House Alexandra Khlevnoy, Chairperson of the Compatriots Association “Rodina” Elena Bass, President of the Soviet Alumni Association Mizanur Rahman, and Chairman of the Liberation War Academy Trust Abul Azad.
Organisers said the motorcycle rally has evolved into a unique annual tradition in Dhaka, bringing together people interested in Russian history and commemorating those who played a role in defeating Nazi Germany during the Second World War.
