India will return two suspects in the murder of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi under an extradition treaty, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said.
The matter was disclosed on Wednesday after Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman held meetings with Indian ministers S Jaishankar and Hardeep Puri in New Delhi.
Prime Minister's Adviser for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir and Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Riaz Hamidullah were present at the meetings.
During the discussions, Khalilur thanked the Indian government for apprehending the suspected killers of Hadi.
“Both sides agreed that the arrested individuals will be returned to Bangladesh in accordance with the procedures laid out in the extradition treaty between the two countries,” the foreign ministry said in a statement this evening.
Faisal Karim Masud, the prime accused in the murder case of Hadi, along with his associate, Alamgir Hossain, was detained on 8 March in the Bongaon area near the Bangladesh-India border by West Bengal Police's Special Task Force (STF).
One of the leaders of the July Uprising and a prospective independent candidate for the 13th parliamentary election from Dhaka-8, Hadi was shot and critically injured on Box Culvert Road in Dhaka’s Paltan area on 12 December 2025.
He sustained bullet injuries to the head and was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he underwent surgery, before being transferred to Evercare Hospital later that night.
He was admitted to Singapore General Hospital on 15 December after being flown there by air ambulance. He passed away on 18 December while undergoing treatment there.
