The Bangladesh embassy in Ankara observed the “Genocide Day” with due solemnity on Tuesday.
All the mission staff wore black badges at the remembrance event marking 25 March 1971, says a press release.
The event began with a minute of silence observed in memory of those martyred on the black night during Pakistani gruesome military raids.
Afterwards, the Chief Adviser’s written message was read out, paying tributes to the martyrs, followed by a discussion session on the significance and impact of the black night.
The embassy’s Defence Attache Brigadier General Mohammed Iftequr Rahman and Head of Chancery Md Rafiqul Islam spoke at the discussions session.
Finally, Ambassador M Amanul Haq spoke, beginning with due respect for the martyrs of 25 March 1971 and the last year’s uprising.
He called the Pakistan military’s viciousness during its “Operation Searchlight” on 25 March as rare in history, and hoped the night’s remembrance every year will raise voices globally to prevent a repetition.
Towards the end of the event, a special prayer was arranged where the participants prayed for everlasting peace for the martyrs of 25 March 1971 and July-August 2024 mass uprising. In the prayers, the participants also wished for the overall prosperity of the nation and the country.
