The supply
of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the national grid fell by 300 million cubic
feet per day (mmcfd) or around 30% on Thursday evening as bad weather in the
Moheshkhali area disrupted cargo transfers to the two terminals.
Petrobangla
officials confirmed that the supply fell to 680 mmcfd from 980 mmcfd around 6pm,
days after supplies returned to pre-crisis level.
The supplies
would improve once the weather situation improves in the coastal areas, the
officials said.
According
to the Met office, a deep depression has formed near India’s states of Odissa
and Andra Pradesh, and expected is moving north-west inwards through the
coastal areas.
On 15 September, supplies from the two floating storage and regasification units off Moheshkhali
returned to near capacity level of 1,100 mmcfd. The two units had been
suffering from technical glitches, and low cargo imports for about two months,
causing severe fuel and power crises in the country.
