The second unit of the Rampal Thermal Power Plant resumed
electricity generation on Sunday after an eight-day shutdown caused by a
technical glitch.
The concerned officials accelerated repair works on a
priority basis to resolve the technical glitch at the second unit of the Bagerhat-based plant, said Anwarul Azim, general
manager for human resources at the power plant.
The second unit has a capacity to generate around 500-megawatt
power and was supplying 368-megawatt to the national grid as of 12pm on Sunday
after resuming operations, Anwarul Azim said.
The second unit would gradually increase power generation to
its maximum potential, he added.
The first unit continues to supply 658-megawatt electricity,
he said.
The second unit went offline around 11:30am on 13 September due
to a technical fault, reducing the power plant’s production capacity by half.
