Bangladesh’s headline inflation fell for the third consecutive month in August, easing to 8.26% from 8.32% in July, according to the latest data.
The decline came after inflation stood at 9.42% in May and 9.16% in June, indicating a gradual easing of price pressures in recent months.
Food inflation also continued to moderate, falling to 7.02% in August from 7.16% in July. However, non-food inflation rose to 9.32% from 9.28% over the same period.
Despite the latest decline, overall inflation remained significantly higher than the government’s desired target, keeping pressure on household budgets.
The August inflation rate was also lower than the 8.29% recorded in the same month last year, when food inflation stood at 7.60% and non-food inflation at 8.90%.
The average headline inflation for the first eight months of 2026 stood at around 8.79%, according to the data.
