Import and export activities between Bangladesh and India resumed on Saturday through the Hili Land Port after remaining suspended for five consecutive days, following a bilateral agreement between the local administration and traders in India.
Indian traders formally informed Bangladeshi business organisations on Thursday evening that they had decided to withdraw their indefinite strike.
According to port sources, a crucial meeting was held on Thursday afternoon between business representatives and the district magistrate and local police administration in Balurghat, India. At the meeting, the administration assured the traders that their demands would be addressed.
Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, traders submitted a memorandum outlining their various demands when West Bengal opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari visited Balurghat.
Following a positive resolution of the issues through discussions with the administration, Indian traders announced the withdrawal of their programme.
As a result, the movement of goods between the two countries has resumed through the Hili land port in accordance with the previous arrangements.
