The price of bottled soybean oil has been hiked by Tk5 per litre to Tk204 in the local market.
The decision to set the new price was made at a meeting held at the Ministry of Commerce on Wednesday.
Later, Commerce Secretary Md Ataur Rahman Khan disclosed the information at a press conference, while the Bangladesh Vegetable Oil Refiners and Vanaspati Manufacturers Association also confirmed the new price.
The ministry said the decision was made to keep prices in line with the international market and maintain a normal supply chain.
However, considering the interests of ordinary consumers, the prices of unpackaged soybean oil and palm oil have been kept unchanged.
According to ministry sources, the newly fixed price will take effect across the country immediately, and strict monitoring will be carried out to ensure an adequate supply of edible oil in the market.
Earlier, the price of bottled soybean oil was increased by Tk4 per litre to Tk199, effective from 29 April this year. The price of loose soybean oil was also adjusted at the same time.
