The country’s
export earnings fell 0.58% year-on-year to over $48 billion in the fiscal year
ending 30 June, as per provisional data released by the Export Promotion Bureau
(EPB) on Thursday.
A late export
rebound in June lifted hopes for the current fiscal year, FY2026-27.
However, the
weakening over the previous 11 months, from July 2025 to May 2026, was too much,
and ultimately led to a full-year decline in fiscal year 2025-26.
Geopolitical
tensions, weakening global demand, energy flow disruptions, and intensifying competition
weighed on exports through the 11 months, the EPB estimated.
Export
earnings were $48.28 billion in the 2025-26 fiscal year, significantly lower
than the government’s ambitious $55 billion target.
Still, in
the face of the headwinds, exports fell marginally from the previous 2024-25 fiscal
year, reflecting resilience and adaptability in the export sector.
June, the
final month of fiscal year 2025-26, recorded a nearly 26% growth from the same
month the previous year. Goods worth $4.20 billion were exported in June 2026
compared with $3.33 billion in June 2025.
RMG sector led
the growth with $3.38 billion earnings.
