Inbound
remittances hit record high of $35.56 billion in the fiscal year ending 30
June, helping prop up foreign exchange reserves amid weak exports.
The inflow
was 17.3% higher from the previous fiscal year’s figure, according to the
central bank data released Wednesday.
The annual
growth in inflow was still weaker than the nearly 26% year-on-year growth
achieved in the fiscal year 2024-25.
In June,
the inflow hit eight-month low at $2.8 billion, which was also 0.6% lower than
the $2.82 billion registered in June 2025.
Furthermore,
the monthly remittance inflow fell below the $3 billion-mark after six months.
Expatriates
sent $120 million on 30 June, the final day of fiscal year 2025-26. The figure
is provisional as 11 commercial banks could not submit their remittance data
owing to bank holiday.
