Air Astra has added an ATR 72-600 aircraft to its fleet as part of the ongoing expansion of its network and operations. The airline received the aircraft on Sunday from the manufacturer.
This is the first of three brand-new aircraft scheduled to join the fleet at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Upon arrival, the aircraft performed a low-pass demonstration over the runway and was welcomed with a traditional water-cannon salute.
The ATR 72-600 is widely recognised for its operational efficiency on short-haul routes. It is powered by the latest Pratt & Whitney PW127XT engines—among the most fuel-efficient and reliable turboprop engines in its category.
The cabin is configured with 72 Geven Neo Prestige seats, offering enhanced passenger comfort for domestic operations in Bangladesh.
Frédéric Inza, chargé d'affaires of the French embassy in Bangladesh, attended the ceremony.
He praised the airline’s expansion and highlighted the aircraft’s role as a best-selling French-built turboprop widely used for regional connectivity worldwide.
At present, Air Astra operates domestic flights connecting Dhaka with Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Sylhet, and Saidpur.
