The use of the mobile application “Fuel Pass” has been made mandatory for purchasing fuel at seven filling stations in the capital, as part of a government initiative to ensure transparency and reduce irregularities in fuel distribution.
The digital system, introduced by Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC), came into effect for motorcycle users on Sunday.
Officials said the move aims to automate fuel distribution and enable real-time monitoring.
According to the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, the system was initially launched on a pilot basis at two filling stations. With the addition of five more stations on Saturday, fuel is now being distributed through the app at a total of seven stations.
The stations currently offering the service include Trust Filling Station in Tejgaon, Sonar Bangla and Talukdar Filling Stations in Asad Gate, Gulshan Service Station in Mohakhali, Meghna Model Pump in Shahbagh, Nikunja Model Service Centre in Nikunja, and Khalek Service Station in Kallyanpur.
Officials said motorcycle riders can now purchase petrol and octane only through the Fuel Pass app at these stations. The facility will be gradually expanded nationwide to cover all types of vehicles.
The app is integrated with the central database of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA). Customers without smartphones can register via a website and obtain printed QR codes.
Under the system, filling station operators will dispense fuel only after verifying digital records. Customers will receive fuel by scanning their QR codes, and the system will display each user’s allocated fuel quota.
Authorities said a central dashboard will enable real-time monitoring of fuel supply and distribution across the country.
The initiative is expected to enhance transparency, reduce irregularities and wastage, and improve management during crisis situations.
To use the service, customers must download the “Fuel Pass” app from the Google Play Store and complete registration by verifying their mobile number and providing vehicle registration details, national identity card, vehicle documents, driving licence, and a passport-size photograph.
Officials noted that the traditional manual system often led to long queues at filling stations and instances of multiple fuel collection by the same individuals, creating artificial shortages. The new digital system is expected to address these challenges.
