Holistic and Confident
A A

“WE want our children to complete their learning at school itself, so they do not need private tutoring,” says Vice Principal of the Junior Section Ms Amina Ramzi. This belief lies at the heart of the school’s teaching philosophy, ensuring that Wilsoners receive comprehensive learning, guidance and confidence-building entirely within the classroom.

Academic Excellence

Over the past five years, SJWS’s IGCSE results have reflected strong academic performance, with 75% of students securing A and A* grades across all subjects. IAL results have also been encouraging, with 50% of students achieving all A grades. Over the years, Wilsoners have attained several World Highest Marks, as well as Country and Asia Highest Marks, in subjects including Economics, Accounting, Pure Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, English Language and Art.

Classroom-Centric Learning

The school follows a structured curriculum in which all lessons are delivered during school hours. Private tutoring is discouraged, and any teacher involved in external coaching of Wilsoners is not part of the faculty. Teachers maintain detailed records of each child’s strengths and areas for improvement, allowing progress to be monitored and support personalised.

Ethical and Supportive Teaching

Fairness and integrity are central to the school’s teaching approach. Each student’s academic and behavioural development is closely monitored, while extracurricular and classroom activities are designed to foster leadership, teamwork, problem-solving and critical thinking. This holistic approach ensures learning extends beyond textbooks to essential life skills.

Early Feedback and Progress Reports

Parents receive progress reports in advance, enabling timely intervention when needed. This proactive approach allows students to improve continuously rather than waiting for end-of-term results. Special classes, either one-to-one or in small groups, are arranged to support students facing academic challenges. Individual Education Plans are also designed for students with specific learning difficulties.

 Building Resilience and Confidence

All Wilsoners are given opportunities to perform on stage from the earliest years, helping them overcome inhibition and build confidence. Students develop public speaking skills through events such as Individual Presentation Day, science fairs, assemblies, recitation competitions and more. Classroom discussions and presentations encourage students to articulate their ideas clearly.

 Discipline and Student Wellbeing

Discipline is considered integral to learning. Students are not allowed to carry phones or money to school, minimising distractions. Teachers are trained to build approachable, positive relationships with students, encouraging healthy interaction. Student and teacher wellbeing is also prioritised. The school offers counselling services through expert psychological counsellors from Brac IED, and teachers receive annual training in Special Educational Needs. In recognition of these efforts, SJWS won the British Council Partner Schools Award for Wellbeing Initiatives in 2025.

Teacher Training

SJWS places strong emphasis on teacher development. Trainers from reputable international teacher-training institutes are brought in annually, alongside local experts and organisations such as Pearson Edexcel, the British Council and Brac IED. The school’s in-house Professional Development Group continually organises workshops throughout the year.
At Sir John Wilson School, education is more than a series of lessons – it is a carefully designed experience that nurtures intellect, confidence and character, all without reliance on private tutoring.
