Best readers gifted books, saplings in Gazipur

To encourage regular reading habits, foster intellectual curiosity, and raise environmental awareness, Bashundhara Shuvosangho Library presented books and tree saplings to its top monthly readers at Charkhirati in Kapasia upazila of Gazipur on Saturday.

The library handed over the gifts to four selected readers during its monthly best-reader recognition programme. General Secretary of the library Md Shakhawat Hossain presided over the event.

The four readers recognised this month were Chandanbari Kamil Madrasa student Mastura, housewife Mansura, Sarbalaxma Alim Madrasa student Sadia, and Khirati MA Hasan Model Academy student Rihan Ahmed. Each recipient received books along with tree saplings to inspire their continued pursuit of learning and environmental stewardship.

Speaking on the occasion, Md Shakhawat Hossain stated: "Our prime objective is to instil reading habits among citizens across all walks of life while fostering awareness about environmental conservation. Through this grassroots initiative, we aspire to build a knowledge-based, compassionate, and green society."

Charkhirati Youth Club members Rakib Miah, Riton, Apel Mahmud, Afsar Uddin, Sohel Miah, and Rajib Paran also attended the event.

Organisers noted that the library selects and awards its best readers each month to expand literacy culture and motivate the younger generation toward intellectual pursuits. While books broaden knowledge, critical thinking, and humanitarian values, gifting saplings actively spreads the message of afforestation.

Organisers expressed hope that such programmes will help nurture an enlightened, eco-friendly community.
