To bolster dengue prevention and shield admitted patients from mosquito bites, the Patiya upazila unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho distributed 10 mosquito nets to the Patiya Upazila Health Complex in Chattogram on Saturday.

The humanitarian initiative was undertaken to mitigate dengue risks, protect hospitalised patients, and build broader community awareness regarding the mosquito-borne disease.

Bashundhara Shuvosangho Patiya unit Adviser Abul Kashem, members Md Abdur Rahim Khandakar and Mahmudul Hasan, Greater Chattogram unit President SMA Jewel, and Patiya unit General Secretary Md Raiyan attended the distribution programme.

Addressing the gathering, speakers underscored that dengue remains a critical public health challenge. They noted that along with medical treatment, personal vigilance, clean surroundings, and eliminating Aedes mosquito breeding grounds are essential to curb the outbreak.

They emphasised that if an Aedes mosquito bites an infected patient, it can spread the virus to others; hence, keeping admitted patients inside bed nets and maintaining sanitary hospital wards are crucial steps in arresting transmission. Hospital authorities, attendants, and citizens must all maintain vigilance, they added.

Speaking on the occasion, Abul Kashem said, "Standing by people during crises is the hallmark of humanity. Alongside aiding the disadvantaged, raising public health awareness is a duty of voluntary platforms. Out of that responsibility, Shuvosangho undertook this net distribution drive."

Speakers also urged residents to regularly clear stagnant water from rooftops, flower tubs, and discarded containers, and advised consulting physicians promptly upon exhibiting fever or related symptoms.
