Bashundhara Shuvosangho has launched a sewing training
workshop in Debiganj, Panchagarh, to help underprivileged and disadvantaged
women become self-reliant.
The initiative aims to create self-employment opportunities
for 26 women, including impoverished and widowed women and female students from
financially disadvantaged backgrounds.
The training workshop began at Iqra Model Madrasa in
Debiganj Upazila Sadar on Saturday afternoon. Upon completion of the training,
each participant will receive a sewing machine from Bashundhara Shuvosangho.
The organisers said many disadvantaged women live with
financial hardship and worry about becoming a burden on their families. Others
aspire to become financially independent but lack access to vocational training
and the necessary equipment. The initiative has been undertaken to develop
these women's skills and create opportunities for them to become self-reliant.
Training participant Mini Akter said, “This is a wonderful
opportunity for me. I want to complete the training with dedication and become
self-reliant.”
Another participant, Sultana Parvin Sima, said that
receiving a sewing machine after learning the skills would allow them to work
from home. She added that they would be able to earn their own income and
contribute to their families' household expenses.
Nahid Siddik Bappi, president of Bashundhara Shuvosangho's
Debiganj unit, said, “We hope this initiative will help improve not only the financial
circumstances of the selected underprivileged and disadvantaged women – but
also those of their families.”
Sheikh Farid, director of Iqra Model Madrasa, said initiatives like this are extremely important for helping women acquire skills and become self-reliant.
