Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised a discussion session and
leaflet distribution campaign among school children in Sherpur to raise public
awareness about dengue prevention and develop habits of cleanliness among
children.
The awareness session was organized at a government primary
school in Sherpur Sadar Upazila on Sunday noon.
During the discussion, students were given detailed
information about the causes of dengue, the breeding grounds of Aedes
mosquitoes, and the measures needed to prevent the disease. Emphasis was placed
on keeping school premises, home yards, and surrounding areas clean and
ensuring that water does not accumulate anywhere.
Speakers said that Aedes mosquitoes generally breed in
clean, stagnant water. Therefore, to prevent dengue, stagnant water in homes,
schools, and surrounding areas must be removed regularly. They also urged
people to keep flowerpots, discarded containers, coconut shells, plastic
bottles, and other objects, where water can accumulate, clean and free of
stagnant water.
Those present at the event included Bashundhara Shuvosangho
Sherpur District Branch Adviser and journalist Hakim Babul, President Minhaj
Uddin, Vice-President Ashraful Islam, General Secretary and journalist Mehedi
Hasan Shamim, Publicity Secretary Jihad Rana, primary school Headmaster Hasanat
Jahan, and Clean Up Sherpur District Branch Coordinator Al Amin Raju.
School Headmaster Hasanat Jahan said that such awareness
initiatives involving students are extremely important for dengue prevention.
Students can not only become aware themselves but also educate their family
members. These activities will play a significant role in promoting cleanliness
and health awareness among students.
Bashundhara Shuvosangho Sherpur District Branch President
Minhaj Uddin said that students are an important part of society. If awareness
about dengue prevention is developed among them, it will spread to their
families and the wider community. He therefore urged students to become more
aware and encouraged everyone to keep their homes and surrounding environments
clean.
At the end of the discussion, students were urged to
maintain regular cleanliness, remove stagnant water, and raise awareness among
others about dengue prevention.
