Bashundhara Shuvosangho has undertaken a 10-day awareness
campaign to increase public awareness about dengue prevention and encourage
people to maintain cleanliness and remain vigilant.
As part of the campaign, various awareness
activities—including leaflet distribution, poster displays, discussion
sessions, and cleanliness drives—will be conducted in phases across the
Jagannath University campus and surrounding areas.
A discussion session was held at Jagannath University on
Monday to inaugurate the campaign. The session was chaired by Tawfiq Hossain, a
member of the Bashundhara Shuvosangho JnU branch. More than 100 members of the
organization participated in the event, including Ratan, Rashel, Rinku, Rifat,
Mukta, Abu Musa, Ismail, Amir, Suraiya, Bushrat, Touhidul, Suhail, Mohon,
Tanvir, Ratul, Mahibullah, Rakib, Tahmina and Tahera.
During the discussion, speakers highlighted the causes of
dengue, the breeding habits of Aedes mosquitoes, measures to prevent dengue,
and the importance of maintaining cleanliness both individually and
collectively. They said that regularly removing stagnant water from homes,
educational institutions and surrounding areas can significantly help control
the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes.
As part of the 10-day campaign, dengue awareness drives,
leaflet and poster distribution, discussions with students, and social media
campaigns will be conducted across the university campus and surrounding areas.
Each day, 10 to 15 members of the organization will participate in these
activities.
Rashel Sheikh, a member of the Bashundhara Shuvosangho JnU
branch, said, “To prevent dengue, it is not enough to seek treatment only after
becoming infected; we must become aware beforehand. We need to regularly check
whether water has accumulated anywhere in our homes, educational institutions
or surrounding areas. Creating awareness can significantly reduce the risk of
dengue.”
Tawfiq Hossain, chairman of the session, said, “Awareness is
the most important factor in preventing dengue. If water accumulates anywhere
around us, Aedes mosquitoes can breed there. Therefore, in addition to keeping
our homes, educational institutions and surrounding environment clean, we must
also encourage others to be aware. Through this initiative of Bashundhara
Shuvosangho, we want to spread the message of dengue prevention among students
and the general public.”
He further said, “The main objective of our campaign is not
to limit our efforts to these 10 days. We want to create such awareness among
students and the general public that they take responsibility for preventing
dengue from their own respective positions.”
The organizers said that various awareness activities will
be conducted in phases across the university campus and surrounding areas
throughout the 10-day campaign. At the same time, necessary information and
awareness messages on dengue prevention will be disseminated through social
media.
