Bashundhara Group provided sewing machines for free to 20
disadvantaged women in Durgapur town, Netrokona on Monday, after organising a free three-month training programme for them.
Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised the sewing machine
distribution programme at the Comrade Moni Singh Memorial Museum auditorium in
Durgapur.
After receiving the sewing machine, Ruma Akter said, “My
husband died 12 years ago. Since then, I have been going through very difficult
times. Despite our financial hardship, I have continued educating my two
children. Now that I have received a sewing machine, I will be able to earn
money by working with it.”
The guests at the distribution event included Bashundhara
Group Adviser and Shuvosangho Chief Imdadul Haq Milan, Adviser Md Masum Billah,
Shuvosangho President Md Jamal Talukder, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ahmed Sadat,
local police station’s Officer-in-Charge Khandaker Shaker Ahmed, local Press
Club President Tobarak Hossain, and Upazila Academic Supervisor Mohammad Nasir
Uddin, among others.
In his speech, Imdadul Haq Milan said, “These sewing
machines have been provided to help women become self-reliant. If they earn
money by working with these machines, it will bring financial stability to
their families while also helping them establish a stronger economic foundation
for themselves.”
He added, “Many women have become self-reliant after
receiving sewing machines from us. Some started with a single machine and later
purchased 10 more. They educated their children and established themselves as
entrepreneurs. Others have not only earned an income themselves but have also
created employment opportunities for other women.”
