A Math Olympiad was held in Narayanganj’s Rupganj on Wednesday to help students overcome their fear of mathematics and develop logical thinking, talent and creativity.

The event was organised by the Rupganj thana unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho at Mir Bagicha International School on Wednesday (16 September).

During the Olympiad, students had the opportunity to apply their talent and logical reasoning by solving various mathematical problems.

The programme was held under the guidance of Bashundhara Shuvosangho Dhaka metropolitan coordinator Abdul Hannan Milton and under the leadership of Rupganj thana unit President Md Ahsanul Haque and General Secretary Rimon Rahman.

Addressing the event, the speakers said mathematics is not only important for achieving good results in examinations but also plays a significant role in developing logical thinking and problem-solving skills in everyday life.

Such programmes can play an effective role in developing students’ interest in mathematics from an early age, they said.

Abdul Hannan Milton said, “Textbook-based education alone is not enough to develop students’ talent and thinking abilities. Their confidence needs to be built through competitions, logical reasoning and creative activities, and such events give them opportunities to develop these skills.”

Assistant teachers of Mir Bagicha International School Nazrul Islam, Zakia Akter, Sabur and Nurul Islam were present as guests. Other teachers and students of the school were also present.

Among the leaders and members of the Rupganj thana unit present were Vice-President Yasin Mia, Organising Secretary Ashraful, Assistant General Secretary Lina, Religious Affairs Secretary Wahid and Child and Women Welfare Affairs Secretary Sagarika.

Prizes were distributed among the winners and meritorious students at the end of the programme.
