Bashundhara Shuvosangho distributed seeds of various vegetables among farmers in Khetlal upazila of Joypurhat on Friday morning to encourage vegetable cultivation in homesteads and fallow lands.
The seeds were
distributed among farmers in Nowpara, Bhutpara, Amanipara and Katahar villages
under an initiative of the Khetlal unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho.
Receiving the
seeds, local farmers expressed hope of growing vegetables in their homesteads
and fallow lands to meet their families’ nutritional needs and reduce household
expenses.
They said
vegetable prices often rise beyond the reach of ordinary people, while growing
vegetables at home could help meet their families’ nutritional needs and reduce
dependence on the market.
M Russell Ahmed,
president of the Khetlal unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho, said, “Handing seeds
to farmers means sowing the seeds of a possibility. We want homesteads and
fallow lands to become greener. This will not only help meet families’
nutritional needs but also create opportunities for additional income.”
Nazmul Hossain,
acting general secretary of the unit, said the initiative was aimed at encouraging
farmers to grow vegetables.
“Vegetables
produced by the farmers themselves will play an important role in meeting their
families’ food and nutritional needs,” he said.
Publicity
secretary Ammar Hossain, finance secretary Shihab Shamim and general members
Kajal, Rawnshara Rifaha and Fahmida Roshni, among others, were also present.
