An English presentation competition and a skill-based career
seminar were held at Dhaka College to help enhance students' future employability
prospects.
The event was organized at the gallery of the July 36
Academic Building of Dhaka College on Sunday. General students of Dhaka
College, along with a large number of members from Bashundhara Shuvosangho,
participated in the event.
The program was presided over by Bashundhara Shuvosangho
Dhaka College branch President Mahmudul Hasan Shovon and moderated by the
branch's General Secretary Md Imdadul Haque.
Riadus Salehin, general secretary of the Bashundhara
Shuvosangho Dhaka University branch, and Shakil Islam, joint general secretary
of the same, attended the event as judges and discussants. Mehedi Hasan,
Central Literature and Publication Affairs Secretary of the Bangladesh Young
Columnists’ Forum, and Md. Muttaqim Islam Musa, Senior Rovermate of the Dhaka
College Rover Scout Group, were also present.
The event began with an English language presentation
competition. The participating students delivered presentations in English on
various topics. Md Iqbal secured first place, Md Miraj Hossain second place,
and Bayezid Ahmed third place in the competition.
Following the presentation competition, a skill-based career
seminar was held. The speakers emphasized the importance of acquiring
communication skills, technological knowledge, language proficiency and other
practical skills alongside academic studies.
In his opening remarks at the seminar, Mehedi Hasan said
there is no alternative to reading books for building a skill-based career.
Books not only increase people's knowledge but also play an important role in
personal and social development. He said students need to develop the habit of
gaining knowledge to move forward in real life. Success will certainly come if
they work hard with patience, he added.
Md Muttaqim Islam Musa said students would face various
challenges in their future careers if they failed to acquire the necessary
skills alongside their studies. Therefore, he said, students should develop
various skills required in practical life, including communication skills,
computer skills and language proficiency, from their student days.
