Bashundhara Shuvosangho Sabujbagh thana unit has organised a workshop on cyber security and safe internet use to raise awareness among young people, who face growing risks from online scams, phishing, fake links, data theft and social media harassment.
The awareness workshop, titled “Cyber Security and Safe Internet Use”, took place in the Sabujbagh area of the capital on Thursday.
The workshop addressed practical ways to protect personal information online, the importance of using strong passwords, identifying suspicious links and messages, risks associated with sharing personal information on social media, and ways to avoid online fraud.
Speakers said keeping young people away from technology was not a solution. Instead, they need proper knowledge to use digital technology safely, positively and responsibly.
“A single careless click or sharing personal information without thinking can sometimes lead to serious consequences. So, people should remain alert online and encourage their families and friends to do the same,” they said.
They also stressed that cyber security is not only a concern for technology professionals but a responsibility shared by every internet user.

They advised people to avoid accepting requests from unknown individuals on social media, clicking suspicious links, sharing OTPs or passwords with others, and forwarding information without verifying its authenticity.
The workshop took place under the overall guidance of Bashundhara Shuvosangho Dhaka Metropolitan Coordinator Abdul Hannan Milton and the leadership of Sabujbagh thana unit President Yasin Mia and General Secretary Abdul Kadir.
Abdul Hannan Milton said the internet had opened up vast opportunities for education, communication and personal development, but the technology could also pose serious risks without adequate awareness.
“Alongside helping young people become skilled technology users, we have a responsibility to develop them as safe and responsible digital citizens,” he said.
He added that using a strong password, making a cautious decision or simply avoiding a suspicious link could sometimes protect a person from serious harm.
“Cyber awareness needs to reach every family and community,” he said.
Noted social worker and former joint secretary Monowar Hossain Toufiq attended the programme as the chief guest. Syed Abu Taher, Sirajul Islam, Shakhawat Hossain, Parvin Akhter and Jahanara Begum, along with other respected local residents, attended as special guests.
They urged young people to use technology responsibly and make constructive use of social media for education, skills development and positive social activities.
Among others, Sabujbagh thana unit Vice-Presidents Ahmed Babu and Rukaiya, Joint General Secretary Akbar Ali, Organising Secretary Shaheen Pasha, Information and Technology Secretary Shakil Mahmud, Women and Children Affairs Secretary Shila Akhter, Literature and Culture Secretary Rafiqul, and members Rimon, Nazir, Shikha, Sumiya, Rabi, Rais and Shipon attended the programme.
The workshop placed particular emphasis on protecting personal information and photographs, using strong and unique passwords, keeping OTPs, PINs and passwords confidential, identifying suspicious links and emails, avoiding online scams and phishing, maintaining responsible behaviour on social media, verifying information before sharing it, and taking appropriate action in cases of cyber harassment.
The organisers said cyber security had become an essential part of everyday life with the rapid expansion of digital technology. They stressed the need to take awareness initiatives beyond workshops and extend them through families, educational institutions and social media.
Participants pledged to share their knowledge with family members and people in their communities and said people should not fear technology but use it with greater awareness.
The organisers expressed hope that such initiatives would help develop a culture of safe and responsible internet use among young people and strengthen efforts to build a digitally aware generation.
