Bashundhara Group on Sunday handed over sewing machines to
20 underprivileged women in Bandarban Sadar Upazila upon completion of a
three-month sewing training course, with the aim of helping them become
self-reliant.
The attending guests handed over the sewing machines at an
event at the Sadar Upazila Auditorium. Among the 20 recipients, 17 were from
ethnic minority communities and most of these ethnic women were students.
Those present at the sewing machine distribution ceremony
included Bandarban Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Shahed Parvez,
Bandarban District Press Club President Aminul Haque Bachchu, Bashundhara
Shuvosangho Director Zakaria Zaman, Shuvosangho Bandarban district branch
President Uei Sing Marma, and others.
One beneficiary, Masingching Marma is a resident of Rening
Para in Bandarban Sadar. She is a Class 10 student at Lotus Shishu Sadan
Residential High School. Her father, Thoaichingnu Marma, works as an office
assistant at a primary school. With a limited family income, the two sisters
are continuing their studies. Masingching believes the sewing machine she
received will play a key role in helping her support her family.
Another beneficiary, Mesainu Marma, is a fourth-year honours
student in the Department of History at Bandarban Government College. Her
father, Sabai U Marma, supports the family through farming. Mesainu's mother
has passed away. Her studies are continuing with the support of her father’s
limited income. In such circumstances, she sees the sewing training and machine
as an opportunity to ease her family's financial difficulties, and build her
future.
Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station Md Shahed Parvez
said, "I would like to specially thank Bashundhara Group for providing
free sewing training and distributing sewing machines with the aim of
empowering women in remote areas of society. I hope this noble initiative will
help women become self-reliant and play an important role in their
socioeconomic development."
