Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit organised an awareness programme and discussion meeting on Tuesday to prevent dengue infection and raise awareness among students.
Members of the organisation’s JU unit and
general students took part in the programme held on the university campus.
At the discussion, speakers expressed concern
over the rising incidence of dengue and stressed the need for effective
preventive measures at both individual and institutional levels.
They said awareness was the most effective
tool for preventing dengue.
They stressed the need to regularly clean
residential halls, dormitories, faculty buildings and surrounding areas to
destroy potential breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes.
They also urged everyone to ensure that water
did not remain stagnant for long periods anywhere on the campus.
Bashundhara Shuvosangho JU unit President
Prottasha Rani said prevention could not depend solely on initiatives by the
university administration.
“Every person on campus, including students,
must play a responsible role from their respective positions. Stagnant water in
flower pots, discarded containers, drains or any other place should be removed
immediately,” she said.
Rifat Bin Nur, publicity secretary of the JU
unit, said there was no alternative to awareness in preventing dengue.
“Every student should keep their rooms and
surrounding areas clean. Through collective efforts, we can make the
Jahangirnagar University campus safer from the risk of dengue,” he said.
The organisation’s JU unit chief adviser and
Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof Dr Nazrul Islam, along with the unit’s
president, general secretary, other members and general students, attended the
programme.
